for the great times!

Some
sad news regarding the Kickass Tarantulas: We will be playing our last
show at the Hall Mall on October 21st. Dave has decided to call it quits,
but we will still have a great time as Tarantula members past and present will
unite for our "greatest hits" set. Thanks for all of your
support. You can still catch Sam in the Miracles of God and The Broads,
Ross in The Broads and Rusty Buckets, Andy in Bury the Survivors, Dave in his
solo performances, and see Pete jamming with various artists around town.

The
Hall Mall show was great! The Tarantula diehards were all front and center
and we really appreciated it! We've got some great shows lined up for the
next few months. Check us out if you haven't seen us in awhile.
We've got some new songs and are looking to start recording soon in Sam's new
studio.

The
Tarantulas will be playing on the 14th of July at the Hall Mall. Not much
other news aside from Sam has been busy touring with the Miracles of God and the
KT's will be recording soon. There are still plenty of KT/Breakdance split
7"s. If you haven't picked one up, get one from us live or at Real
Records.

Just
a quick message to note the little changes throughout the site. I'm no
great site designer by any means, but intend to keep the site fresh, appealing,

The
Breakdance/Tarantulas tour has drawn to a close. It had its ups and downs,
but was all worth it. Highlights were definitely Columbia and Gabe's.
Thanks to the great guys of B-Dance and everyone who enjoyed our sets.
We'll have some photos up soon. Also, thanks to the fine folks at the
Ranch in Columbia for letting us sleep overnight. It was much
appreciated. Your cat was real cute. Thanks, everyone! See you
at the Blowfly show the end of March at Gabe's.

Kickass Tarantulas would like to announce their newest member: Stacy! She
will be augmenting the Tarantulas' driving beats and percussion. Our
upcoming tour should not be missed! An 8 piece Tarantulas is scheduled to

Violent Femmes in Columbia, Mo this weekend! Ross' Rusty Buckets are in
the early stages of recording a cd, and Andy's Bury the Survivors will be
playing the Hall Mall this Friday the 7th as well as beginning some long overdue

Gabe’s Oasis in Iowa
City will host the record release party of two local underground favorites
this Saturday, February 25th. The untitled album, pressed on real,
old-fashioned vinyl and released by local labels Hot Potatas and The Curse
Records, is the collaborative effort of Iowa City-based bands Breakdance
and Kickass Tarantulas. The party will include performances by both
Breakdance and Kickass Tarantulas, as well as Iowa City’s Petit Mal, and
Division and Honore from Chicago. The Iowa City show is one stop on the
bands’ current midwestern tour, which includes appearances across Iowa,
as well as Chicago, and Columbia, Missouri.
Breakdance is a five-piece punk rock-heavy metal crossover group formed in
1998 in Iowa City. The six songs included on this album were recorded back
in 2002 at Solid Sound Studios in suburban Chicago, the same studio where
notable Chicago acts The Smoking Popes, Screeching Weasel, and The
Smashing Pumpkins have recorded.
The split 7-inch album is Breakdance’s second release, following last
summer’s Mistaken Grave. Breakdance has appeared with D.R.I., Damad,
Hewhocorrupts, Keelhaul, and countless appearances with Iowa City’s
legendary Ten Grand. Most recently, they have played with Bad Wizzard,
Dixie Witch, Bobaflex, and Break the Silence.
Started in 2004, The Kickass Tarantulas is an assembly of members of other
notable local and national acts Bury the Survivors, Miracles of God, Rusty
Buckets, and Violent Femmes. Their sound is a unique blend of punk, metal,
and classic country. The Tarantulas’ guitarist and songwriter Sam Ward
says of their music, “These are true stories of life in the Midwest. The
Tarantulas are sick of not being able to relate to [anything] coming out
of major FM radio.”
