fendad.jpg (25242 bytes) Single page ad for Fend.  It says it was coming out November 6th 1995.  John Marks from The Kingpins and The Abortions made them.  By far one of the best zines around at the time.  His art is amazing and he'd put anything you gave him in there.  Unfortunately I do not have #1.  Only 20 were made, so I may not have ever gotten one.  Or it got lost in the last 13 years.  (Shit, has it been that long?!)  I think he did most of the work on these in art class our senior year.
fend2.jpg (27499 bytes) Fend #2. December 1996 (?)  Highlights include an article by Kim Daniels complaining about substance abusers, Brad from The Abortions telling you to eat quarter pounders and drink PBR, and John Denning telling you how to get a free soda from Burger King.  Kim started abusing substances himself a year later, Brad disappeared off the face of the earth, and Burger King on the ped mall is closed. In my opinion, the highlight is an article from the late Matt Davis about assholes in college and the world in general.  Miss ya Matt.
fend3.jpg (27266 bytes) Fend #3 January 1996.  On page 2 John said "1996 will be a year full of fuked up kids, fukin shit up."  I guess he was right in a way.  A few pages later he said that punk was dead and there was no scene on Iowa City.  At least there were bands to see back then!  John Denning bitches about the cops, which I can identify with, Kim talks about friendships, and more kids complain about growing up.
fend4.jpg (33881 bytes) Fend #4 May 1996 (?)  This issue was mostly writings by John.  He writes about a trip to Minneapolis and talks a bit about what The Abortions were up to.  He seemed to really like Minneapolis, which is probably why he moved there.  One thing that kinda bums me out, he mentions that he wanted to do an interview with The Stereotypes, but he didn't have time.  "Maybe next issue" he says.  The next issue never happened as far as I know.
gendefect1.jpg (32643 bytes) gendefect2.jpg (39040 bytes) Generation Defect.  A single page zine by John Marks.  I don't know if there were any more than this one.  The art is so amazing that I had to post 2 pictures.
